Nightguards

Tired of losing sleep over jaw pain and severe headaches? Learn more about how a night guard can help you get back your sleep!

A dental nightguard is a dental appliance worn while sleeping to protect the teeth from the effects of Bruxism (grinding and clenching) that can occur while sleeping. Bruxism can lead to many ill effects such as headaches, jaw pain, tooth pain, and fracturing or wearing of your teeth.

A nightguard is custom fitted to the individual’s teeth and is usually made of a soft and flexible material such as silicone or acrylic but can also be made of harder materials if necessary. When worn, the night guard provides a cushion between the upper and lower teeth, preventing them from coming into contact and grinding against each other. By doing so this strongly helps to alleviate the symptoms of bruxism.

What is the process of making a nightguard?

The process of nightguard fabrication is painless, your dentist will take an impression of your mouth using either traditional impression materials or develop a 3D image using a digital scanner. This impression will be sent off to one of our custom labs to finalize the product. The next visit will be a simple and quick delivery and fitting of the new appliance taking only minutes.

What are the benefits to wearing a nightguard when I sleep?

There are many benefits to wearing a night guard regularly:

  • Protects the teeth from damage due to nighttime grinding or clenching
  • Prevents jaw pain and headaches caused by muscle strain
  • Helps support a good night sleep, as some individuals will wake themselves up due to severe clenching and pain throughout the night

Sports Guards

Focus on the game, not your teeth!

A dental sports guard, also known as a mouthguard or a mouth protector, is a dental appliance that is worn during sports or physical activity to protect the teeth and mouth from injury. In many contact sports, your mouth is a vulnerable area which can leave your teeth easily damaged if hit. Dental sports guards are recommended by dentists to individuals who participate in these types of contact sports or other activities where there is a risk of dental injury.

How does a sports guard protect my teeth?

The sports guard is made of a soft and flexible material and is custom fitted to the individual’s teeth. When worn, the sports guard provides a cushioning effect, absorbing any impacts made to the face and preventing the teeth from coming into contact with each other. This helps to prevent a variety of dental injuries, such as broken or knocked-out teeth, fractured jaws, and cuts to the lips and tongue.

How are custom sports guards made?

To make a sports guard your dentist will take a traditional impression of your mouth. Using this impression our staff here at Liberty Dental Centre Bowmanville, will custom make your sports guard in house saving you money!

The fitting of a sports guard is fast and easy and usually only requires a few minutes. After that, you’ll be able to focus on the game and less on the risk to your teeth.

Snoring & TMJ Appliances

Tired of letting your snoring disrupt your sleep? Let us help you today!

A dental snore guard is a dental appliance that is worn while sleeping to help reduce or eliminate snoring. Snoring occurs when the soft tissues at the back of the throat vibrate as air passes through, and can be caused by factors such as obesity, alcohol consumption, smoking, or sleeping on one’s back.

A dental snore guard is custom fitted to the individual’s teeth and works by repositioning the jaw slightly forward, which helps to keep the airway open and reduce the vibrations that cause snoring. The snore guard is composed of a soft and flexible material, such as silicone or acrylic, and is comfortable to wear while sleeping.

Dental snore guards are often recommended by dentists for patients who suffer from snoring, As the end result can improve sleep quality  and reduce the risk of health problems associated with snoring, such as sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease.

To fabricate a snore guard a sleep study is needed. This will be reviewed by our sleep specialist and the snore guard can be made to customly address your specific needs!
